At postcard size, with step-by-step instruction, learn how to paint a wet-into-wet and glazed rainbow sky, a wet-into-wet sunset sky and how to lift a fluffy cloud sky. Immerse yourself in discovering the beautiful way watercolor uniquely captures the luminous glow of sunlight in this two-day workshop. Guided by step-by-step instruction, learn how watercolor delightfully mingles together in this wet in wet method to describe the transparent glow on our subject of grapes. Bring your subject to life by crafting the illusion of light on surrounding leaves by painting a grisaille foundation followed by layers of various yellow and green washes. Complete your practice painting with the magical techniques of wispy spider web, adding a touch of magic to your artistic endeavors. All levels of painting experience welcome. Please join the fun!

SEEING HISTORY in the STONES: SKETCHING an IRISH CASTLE September 16 & 17, 2024

Travel back in time to the historical Aughnanure Castle of the O’Flahertys in County Galway with a Captivating journey back to the late 1500s. Experience the architectural marvels and the scenic surroundings through PowerPoint presentations. You will receive drawing paper with a pre-started sketch of the stone structures and after demonstrations of various techniques, you will embellish your Watchtower and Towerhouse with pen ad ink lines, adding texture and depth, immerse yourself in the artistic process, and gain insights into reference photographing techniques for creating artwork while traveling. This workshop promises an enriching blend of history, creativity and skill development. Please join the fun!

Classes

Patricia Schmidt

has been painting with watercolor for over thirty years and is known for her super-realistic paintings alive with color and drenched with light.

She is a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Society of Oregon; a charter member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, a member of the Oregon Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society, the Oregon Society of Artists and SPLASH, a professional artist group. Her paintings are included in the watercolor books “Splash Retrospective: 20 years of Contemporary Watercolor Excellence“ (2013), “Splash 14: Light and Color” (2013”), “Splash 12: Celebrating Artistic Vision” (2011) and the Winter 2005 “Watercolor“ magazine. Patricia has taught watercolor, drawing and colored pencil classes as adjunct faculty for several colleges as well as classes at Sitka Center for Art and Ecology on the Oregon Coast.

She has illustrated with watercolored pen and ink drawings, a children’s book “A Dolphin Named Destiny” which will be published in 2024. She has also illustrated greeting cards for several greeting card companies and pen and ink designs for a rubber stamp company.
